€12 million Moate Retirement Village Officially opened by the Minister for Finance

Minister for Finance, Brian Cowen T.D, officially opened Moate Retirement Village in Moate, Co Westmeath on Friday 27th May at 3.00pm.

The Village, part of the Retirement Villages of Ireland Group which was developed by Goldman Securities Limited, is the second state of the art, purpose built retirement village to be opened by the company in Ireland at a cost of €12 million. The first one was successfully opened in Kilmainhamwood, Kells, Co. Meath in 2002 and has 49 houses whose Residents are enjoying an active retirement in beautiful, safe, surroundings.

Moate Retirement Village comprises 47 apartments and 6 townhouses built in the security of the former Carmelite grounds in Moate, Co Westmeath, an area with breathtaking scenery steeped in history and interesting places to visit. It is not just a great place to live but it also offers Residents the opportunity to avail of other necessary facilities and have an active social life in the Residents Club.

This purpose built Club will provide an alternative restaurant, hairdressing facilities, chiropody, physiotherapy, reflexology as well as massage and a laundry facility. It will also offer regular activities including music, art and craft classes, card games, bingo, internet café and is designed to become the social hub of the Village. It will be run by an on-site Manager and Village staff as well as a Residents committee.

As well as the Club, the surrounding area of Moate and Westmeath offers a wide range of activities which includes cruising, golf, horseracing, walking, pitch and putt, touring, restaurants as well as easy access to nearby major shopping centers. The village also has a Residential Care Home run by Mowlam Healthcare Group.

The concept of a retirement village where people choose to sell their original family home, release equity and buy or rent a new home in a purpose built retirement village with access to a nursing home and other on-site facilities, is something which has been hugely popular in the USA and UK for a number of years and is now an excellent option for people as they approach retirement age in Ireland. Furthermore all houses and apartments in Moate qualify for section 32 Tax Relief.

Speaking at the official opening Minister for Finance Brian Cowen said "The Moate Retirement Village is a welcome addition to the range of facilities on offer here in the Midlands and the strong focus on providing appropriate facilities for enhancing the social life of Residents will be a major attraction for those who chose to live here. Indeed the variety of activities proposed seems to me to suggest less "retirement" and more "home"."

Mr. Paddy White, Managing Director, Goldman Securities added "With an on-going increase in Ireland's active retirement population, Retirement Villages of Ireland plan to build further Villages based on these successful models in other convenient locations in Ireland, providing world class facilities for Ireland's retirement community in the future.
